Carroll County Team Lands First Place With 113.54 lbs. Of "Fat Cat"

first_place Hunt for the prize-winning "Fat Cat" began at 7:00 a.m. with twenty-six in competition for the purse. Tropical storm Arlene was pushing heavy rains and high winds north, but held off until the evening leaving for a beautiful tournament day on Birdsong Creek and the Tennessee River. The Volunteer Crappie Club's annual Kentucky Lake "Fat Cat" open catfish tournament was held out of Birdsong Resort, Marina and Campground in Camden, Saturday, June 12. PHOTO: 113.54 LBS. Weigh-in commenced promptly at 5:00 p.m. The Carroll County team of Del Clark, Lavina, and Richard Akin, Huntingdon, landed first place with 113.54 lbs. Taking second position was the team of Chris Eubanks, Trenton, and Lance Reasons, Humboldt, with 81.83 lbs. Thomas Allen, McKenzie and William Allen, McKenzie took third with 64.94 lbs. Fourth position was Joe Travis, Trezevant, and Marvin Gilliam, McKenzie with 58.14 lbs., and fifth place was taken with 48.99 lbs. by Gary Baker, McKenzie, and Charlotte Harrington, Bradford.

The "Fat Cat" Tournament was a qualifier for the Bass Pro Shop's Big Cat Quest catfish tournament trail with the top 4 places becoming eligible to compete. The trail begins June 25 in Eufaula, AL; moves to Pickwick, TN for the historical National Catfish Derby (now part of the Big Cat Quest trail); then to Fort Madison, IA; Gilbertsville (KY Lake/KY Dam), KY; and finalizes with the 2-day championship at Birdsong Resort, Marina and Campground in Camden, TN.
