Tennessee River 600 Moving Downstream

The Tennessee River 600 continues downstream after having passed through Chattanooga earlier this week. Today participants are locking through Guntersville Dam and continuing toward Joe Wheeler State Park for the night.

The Tennessee River 600, which began in 1997 as a pleasure event for personal watercraft (PWC) enthusiasts, has now evolved into an annual event with participants representing as many as 19 states. The participants raise money benefiting four children's hospitals and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA).

To date a total of $127,192.00 has been raised for these wonderful organizations.

On Saturday the 75 participants are expected to visit Birdsong Marine, Resort and Campground, in Camden, Tennessee (on Kentucky Lake) before continuing to their ending point at Paris Landing State Park.

Bob Keast, owner of the resort said, “The Tennessee River Run 600 is wonderful event that earns some much-needed revenue for charitable causes. Birdsong Resort, Marina and Campground, HeavyWeight Promotions, and our Fresh Water Pearl Farm, Museum and Tours are proud to be a part of this event. The participants are to be commended. To celebrate this charitable run, I am proud to announce that my three businesses will be offering free lemonade and popcorn to all the spectators and media, as well as refreshments and snacks for the participants, and discounts on gas. I encourage the public to come out and witness this event and cheer on the participants.”

Participants lock through eight TVA dams during the weeklong journey. Support services are provided by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Tennessee Valley Authority, Tennessee State Parks, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Tennessee Department of Tourist Development, and the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers. All of these agencies help make this a safe and fun trip for everyone.
