AUSTRALIAN VISITORS COME TO CAMDEN

IMG_5072_australian Chantel Marsters and her mother, Carol Walker from Perth, Australia, stopped in the Tennessee River Freshwater Pearl Museum, Farm and Jewelry Showroom on Thursday, September 23, 2004. The pair is traveling the United States with Chantel’s Christian Band - Endless Praise.

The group is on a 5-month tour and now on the last 4 weeks of the circuit. Beginning in Mass., then through Wisconsin, Chicago, Houston, Atlanta, Huntsville, the group is up next for Washington, and will end in Nashville for the flight out. The next leg of the tour includes 2 weeks in London UK, before they journey home.

Marsters husband is a direct relative of one of the black pearl farm owners in the Cook Islands. French Polynesian black pearls are quite famous in jewelry fashion today. Marsters and her mother found it interesting to visit the location that supplied the mussel shells for their nucleation implants to culture their pearls.

Most all pearls of the world require a Tennessee River/Mississippi Basin mussel shell to create the original seed implant. Our area is home to a species of the mollusk that sports the unusual, unique feature with its thick shell - unlike most other varieties with their commonly thin exterior.
