The Kids Fishing Tournament was a huge success at Birdsong Resort and Marina on June 13, 2009. 125 Kids total participated in the tournament catching a total of 366 fish weighing in over 64 lbs. combined.
Every child fishing at the derby received a free goodie bag full of fun stuff provided by the event's local sponsors. In addition to free fishing, the day featured free food and beverages, prize drawings, special guests and demonstrations. Demonstrations and Special Guests include: The TN Forestry Department, "Smokey the Bear"; Milan Police Departments "Daren the D.A.R.E. Lion"; The Tennessee Highway Patrols "Tennessee Bear, Ollie the Otter and the Roll Over Car"; and The Henry County Police Departments "Striker the Police Dog." Birdsong Resort and Marina has a strong commitment to the community's youth and is proud to host a memorable day of fishing for the kids and their families. "Events like this fishing rodeo can be a great bonding experience for kids and their families," said Bob Keast, rodeo spokesperson. "Remember the family that plays together stays together," added Keast. The "Get Hooked On Fishing-Not On Drugs" Kids Fishing Rodeo is sponsored locally by The Tennessee Highway Patrol, Turner Dairy, The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Bob Keast, Jamie Verner and Anderson Bait Company. Age Group - 6-10 1st – Austin McCabe – 35 fish – 8.44 lbs. 2nd – Blaine Davis – 27 fish – 5.32 lbs. 3rd – Micha Baker – 17 fish – 3.67 lbs.
